A New Half Cent Sales Tax in Okaloosa?
That’s what voters will be asked to do. Vote themselves higher taxes. It hasn’t worked in the past and probably won’t work in the future. No one wants to pay more taxes. I know many who utterly despise the way the schools collect their revenue and will not vote for anything that has to do with the school system.
But the school system believes that it is time for them to ask for more money and proposes a half cent sales tax.

At least Howard Hill has a sound head on his shoulders here.
School Board member Howard Hill was the first to respond to Tibbetts’ question.
“The thing of it is, I appreciate our needs. … I just feel like this is not a good time to be going for a tax increase,†he said. “I know we need it. … It’s just not a good time.â€Â
Now is not the time to add taxes to an already overburdened voter in the county of Okaloosa.
