Apologies for Illegal Immigrants?
Why is it that people feel that we cannot talk about Illegal Immigrants without offending someone? Do we just ignore the fact that millions of undocumented immigrant workers/non-workers live in the US?
Ignore the fact that many of these undocumented workers are on welfare, food stamps, reduced rent housing, medicaid and public schools. These are non citizens. Non resident Aliens. Non tax payers in most cases. All of them are criminals. They broke the law entering the country illegally. A large number of them are criminals before they enter our country.
They are a drain on our public services and do not contribute a full amount to the system they abuse. Many of them will take lower pay for the same job that many are willing to take but not for as low pay. Mostly because they know they are here illegally. Not because no one else wants to do the job.
Many people claim they contribute to our economy. They may indeed contribute some to our economy. But the vast majority of the wages they do earn goes back to where they came from. Not back into our economy.
If you say something about immigration you are not politically correct. If you are a politician and you criticize or ridicule illegal immigration you are ostracized by the Hispanic community. This happened recently to Florida State Rep. Don Brown. He sent an email to fellow lawmakers.
Brown, R-DeFuniak Springs, forwarded an e-mail to fellow lawmakers Thursday that featured a cartoon and the comment, “Don’t forget to pay your taxes … 12 million illegal aliens are depending on you.”
Florida State Rep. Don Brown was immediately castigated for his email. Even though it is very true. The number may be exaggerated but the fact of the matter is that our taxes are going to support those illegal aliens. It is easier to get support if you are illegal than if you are here legally. Especially if you happen to be a good old citizen of the US. Heaven forbid that you actually need the services that you are paying for.
Calls for an apology were immediate. Rep. Don Brown did the right thing. He apologized.
Brown said his original apology “was intended to be an apology for disrupting the order of business in the state Legislature and should not be understood to be an apology for any mention of illegal aliens, which is a legitimate public policy question.”
To the legislature.
At least there is one Florida politician who is not afraid of issues important to Americans. Citizens of the United States.
Kudos to Don Brown for standing up for our rights as citizens and the laws of our country.
But Illegal Immigration is not just a Florida issue.
