Both of our Congressmen voted Nay to Massive Government Spending
Good news and bad news for those of us who believe in limited government spending. Both of our elected Congressmen for Northwest Florida have voted “No” on the Massive Pork Spending resolution H.R. 1
While this wasn’t a surprise coming from Congressman Jeff Miller(R), it does come as a slight surprise from Congressman Allen Boyd(D).
Congressman Miller has been very consistent on his voting for these Pork Laden “Stimulus” bills. He knows that spending massive amounts of taxpayer dollars on virtually nothing doesn’t endear well to his constituents.
Congressman Boyd, on the other hand, has flip-flopped on the entire spending ordeal altogether. Voting to spend massive amounts of money to prop up failing business models in the banking industry with absolutely no oversight as to how the money was used by those receiving the benefit of hard earned tax payer dollars. Then voting not to spend massive amounts of tax payer dollars on various pet projects of the Democratic party.
The bill contains a hefty increase in subsidies for public transportation. Will that stimulate the economy? Not really, but it does protect public-sector jobs, almost all union positions, and that helps Democrats get more union money. It’s the Democratic Party Stimulus Act, not a recipe for economic revival. – Hot Air
Ed Morrisey over at Hot Air has more on the Democratic Party Stimulus Act.
While I am happy that Congressman Boyd has shown a small backbone. Enough to vote against the party line. He has still yet to prove that he is actually a “Blue Dog” conservative Democrat. This one vote of “No” on a bill that was sure to pass anyway could just be a ruse to keep his constituents happy by saying that he didn’t vote for the Bill and not a trend of voting against massive Government spending.
Now, the bad news is that this Pork Bill has actually passed the House. Virtually along party lines with a few Democrats siding with almost all of the Republicans. One Republican declined to vote. Not sure why, but it I am embarrassed to point out that it was a Florida Representative from District 5, Congresswoman Ginny Brown-Waite(R).
This Bill is just another in a line of Bills that intend on spending massive amounts of money for Democrat pet projects to “buy” votes to keep them in power in the guise of actually stimulating the economy. The first “fast-tracked” stimulus/bailout Bill passed so quick that no one really knows how the money is being used. This one will be just the same. Another is in the works already to supplement the first as it has run out of money already.
