Constitutional Amendment to the Class Size Requirement
Senator Don Gaetz filed a bill earlier this month to propose an amendment to the Florida Constitution to revise class size requirements for public schools.
This would make it easier for schools to comply with the class size requirements by making the requirement an average. Class sizes would still have a maximum number of students but the overall average would make it easier to comply.
This is a great idea and a good step in the right direction.
Studies have shown that reducing the class size has not been very cost effective.
Last year the Florida Department of Education released a research study that said class-size reduction is not a cost-effective way to improve student performance, and that investments in educator professional development and quality of instructional staff have shown similar impact. – Creative Loafing
