Democrats for Fiscal Responsibility?

You have got to be joking.

This year, Democrats are running on a platform of restoring fiscal responsibility, hearkening back to Clinton’s surpluses. “Deficit reduction would be one of the top priorities for the budget committee in a Democrat-led Congress,” says Representative Dennis Moore of Kansas, second-ranking Democrat on the Budget Committee.   — Bloomberg

Democrats don’t have any such idea of fiscal responsibility.  The way things are currently going, the budget will continue to reduce it’s deficits.  Even if the Republican Party retains power.

The problem with the budget is that both parties are tax and spend at the moment.  Each wants to get their agenda into the budget or law.  So they all compromise and add to the bills that are passed.

This is all fine and dandy if we were closer to having a balanced budget.  But we are not.

The unfortunate thing about this is that the democrats can claim a political victory if they do gain one of the two.  Either one would effectively stall the process and force compromise even more.  Possibly towards less spending.

I’m all for that but it would look like the democrats are all about Fiscal responsibility and not the Republicans.   This would be a very bad thing for the presidential election.  The democrats could once again claim they balanced the budget and created a surplus when in reality it wasn’t them.  It wasn’t them in the Clinton administration either.  But they claimed it.

Democrats have never been about Fiscal Responsibility.  They probably never will.  More government is better for you is their motto.  You can’t have more government without more spending.  You can’t have more spending without having a larger budget.  And unless they raise your taxes(which they would do), you can bet that with more spending there will be more deficit.

Go out and vote.  I plan to.
