E-Verify is up for Re-Authorization
What is E-Verify? Simply put, it is a government program that matches a social security number with a name. You can learn more about it here.
It is up for re-authorization this year. And could be dumped if some have their way.
Why should you be worried?
Democrat friends of illegal immigration want to water down this very handy tool for verifying that an individual is actually who they say they are. Matter of fact, they would like to get rid of it entirely.
The ACLU claims it violates peoples rights. However one of the best things it does is help prevent fraud and identity theft which actually does violate peoples rights. All employers should use it.
According to Roy Beck at NumbersUSA,
E-Verify is the most effective tool to protect vulnerable American workers from unscrupulous businesses that hire illegal foreign workers to displace American workers or depress their wages. A vote to weaken E-Verify in any way is a vote to weaken protections of American working families during a serious economic downturn.
Loss of E-Verify, instead of requiring its use, would be a serious blow to not only policing illegal immigration but a blow to combating fraud and identity theft.
