Employee Free Choice Act

There is lots of pressure by the Labor industry to have this act passed. This should tell you something right up front.

Anytime the Labor Industry is trying to push something it doesn’t mean they are doing it for the good of the people. They are doing it for their own good. They have been losing membership steadily in the last decade. More and more employees are choosing not to unionize. This means that Labor is losing more and more income to line their, sometimes corrupt, pockets.

They have spent up to $200 million lobbying to get this passed. That’s a lot of union members money. Wonder if those union members approved of this or even know it was spent.

One of the top recipients of this money is one of the co-sponsors of the bill that went to the Senate, Senator Obama.

Why is this important?
Because it goes to show just how bad it can be for business owners. Not only does Senator Obama want to spread the wealth of Business owners, he also wants to kneecap Business owners by making it easier for Labor to form Unions.

How is it easier?
The Employee Free Choice Act is a misnomer. It isn’t really Employee Free Choice. There is nothing in it that gives the Employees a free choice at all. In fact, it will remove that free choice from employees by giving Labor the ability to form a union just by having union cards signed by 50% plus 1 employee.

You might say “big deal, they still have to have 50% signed”. But it is a big deal. Union representatives typically get union cards signed. Either at employees homes or at informational meetings. Most people feel intimidated and will sometimes sign the cards to get more information or just to get the representative to leave. This doesn’t mean that the employees want to form a union.

There was a recent example right here in Northwest Florida where if the Employee Free Choice Act were passed a union would have been formed. Fortunately it wasn’t and with a secret ballot vote by all of the employees, the Union was rejected 2 to 1. However, the union had enough union cards that they could have formed a union without this vote.

This is a very bad piece of legislation that should never see the light of day. It is so bad that a Democrat Senator who is a support of Labor is fighting against this bill. Senator George McGovern (D), a heavy supporter of Labor, broke with the party line and has written an article in the Wall Street Journal opposing Employee Free Choice Act.

Senator Obama intends on making this act become a bill if he is elected.

Senator McCain has expressed opposition to this bill.

I am strongly opposed to H.R. 800, the so-called Employee Free Choice Act of 2007. Not only is the bill’s title deceptive, the enactment of such an ill-conceived legislative measure would be a gross deception to the hard-working Americans who would fall victim to it.

And it is a deception. You won’t have a choice if 50% plus 1 of your co-workers sign cards. Many of whom just want information and not to join.

This bill recently passed the house but it was killed in the Senate. Our state representatives were split on how they voted for this bill. Congressman Jeff Miller (R), district 1, voted no on the bill. Congressman Allen Boyd (D), district 2, vote yes on the bill.

Congressman Boyd obviously isn’t what he claims to be. He continues to vote the party line and not think about the people. This bill is a bill to support labor. It does nothing to help employees.
