Obama has time to start changing stories on community service for young people.

It has started. Obama is starting to change his stories on things he promised to do.

One of the programs he was pandering while on the campaign trail was a community service requirement by people younger than 25.

Obama will call on citizens of all ages to serve America, by developing a plan to require 50 hours of community service in middle school and high school and 100 hours of community service in college every year.

Of course this didn’t get much air time with the media. If it had, younger people might not have gone and voted so much in favor of Obama.

Once this hit his new website Change.gov though, it turned into a talking point for many in the blog sphere. Especially since his pick for Chief of Staff went a little further on this idea

It’s time for a real Patriot Act that brings out the patriot in all of us. We propose universal civilian service for every young American. Under this plan, All Americans between the ages of eighteen and twenty-five will be asked to serve their country by going through three months of basic training, civil defense preparation and community service.

Here’s how it would work. Young people will know that between the ages of eighteen and twenty-five, the nation will enlist them for three months of civilian service. They’ll be asked to report for three months of basic civil defense training in their state or community, where they will learn what to do in the event of biochemical, nuclear or conventional attack; how to assist others in an evacuation; how to respond when a levee breaks or we’re hit by a natural disaster. These young people will be available to address their communities’ most pressing needs.

and Obama was forced to clarify his idea and tone down the requirement.

Obama will call on citizens of all ages to serve America, by setting a goal that all middle school and high school students do 50 hours of community service a year and by developing a plan so that all college students who conduct 100 hours of community service receive a universal and fully refundable tax credit ensuring that the first $4,000 of their college education is completely free.

Allahpundit, over at Hot Air, has more on this subject.
Why the change of heart here? Are we in for more changes in his platform from what he told everyone he would do during the campaign? Probably.

Even after his successful election as the next President of this great country he continues to change his story on things he wants to do.

You also have to wonder how he plans on paying for it as well. The more money he intends on spending the more he has to tax. Remember it is everyone’s patriotic duty to pay more taxes to give to those who don’t pay taxes.

And who, exactly, will be getting the tax refund? Many states already have programs like this in place. It needs to remain with the state and stay out of the federal government.

Just food for thought.

This kind of reminds me of the book “Starship Troopers” by Robert Heinlein. Where only Citizens can vote. The only way to become a citizen was through community service. Part of which was joining the military. The Democrats have already suggested reinstating the draft.

People were worried about a turn towards George Orwell’s “1984″ before the election. Maybe they should be a little more worried now. “Big Brother” is going to be in office soon and will resolve all of the problems we have been having.
