Reinstating the Draft
First we have Kerry calling US service members uneducated. Now we have Democratic Rep. Charles Rangel wanting to reinstate the draft to help equalize the disproportionate military.
U.S. Rep. Charles Rangel, the incoming chairman of the House of Representatives’ tax-writing committee, said he would introduce legislation to reinstate the draft as soon as the new, Democratic-controlled Congress convenes in January.
He says this is to get more people who are not either poor or a minority into the military.
He has said the U.S. fighting force is comprised disproportionately of people from low-income families and minorities.
It is quite obvious that Rangle has absolutely no idea what he is talking about. He is trying to scare the voters into the democrat party by using such tactics. Capt Ed at the Captains Quarters Blog spoke about this on at least one occasion.
Rangel only has two problems with this hypothesis — he has no idea how the military recruits its enlistees as the Heritage Foundation demonstrates…
Of course if you don’t support him in his bid to reinstate the draft then we are all just hypocrites. This is from a guy who is going to be the chairman of the House of Representatives’ tax-writing committee.
Just to be fair, Rangle does have an out for those rich kids he complains about.
Rangel said his legislation on the draft would also offer the alternative of a couple of years of public service with educational benefits.
I guess between Senator Kerry and Representative Rangle, I am an uneducated hypocrite for joining the military and not wanting the draft. Glad the Democrats have enlightened me enough to realize that I need them to take care of me.
I was neither poor, uneducated or a minority when I joined. Maybe I am now.
Be ready for the Taxes to rise and the draft to start.
