Time for florida to tighten it’s belt

Florida has enjoyed a financial boom during the housing boom. Increasing incomes from tax revenues enabled lawmakers to do many things and create many new programs.

All of that has pretty much stopped. Florida home owners are frustrated at the high rates of taxes on their homes and home sales are down quite a bit. This all translates to reduced revenue for the Florida government.

The new House Speaker Ray Sansom (R) took time to speak to other Republican leaders about the possibility of a deficit in the Florida budget.

Sansom will brief the group on the state’s troubled financial outlook. He has estimated the state’s budget deficit could grow to as much as $2 billion as the national economic crisis deepens. – NWF Daily News

It is time for Republicans to act like Republicans and look at fiscal conservatism. It is time to stop spending on every pet project they can think of and get back to the basics of providing responsible government to the citizens of Florida. Republican leaders in Florida have an opportunity to show the rest of the states that it can be done. Reduce the government expenditures and lessen the burden on Florida Taxpayers.
