Watch your credit and debit cards closely.

Credit card and Debit card numbers are being stolen and used to drain accounts. This is happening just about everywhere in the use. Especially close to the holidays.

It seems that the place to get them stolen has moved to someplace that you normally wouldn’t think about. Restaurants.

That’s right. You hand over your card to pay your bill. The waiter/waitress takes off with it and writes the number down while they run your card. They also write down that little 3 digit code that they can use. Then it is just a matter of purchasing what they want after you have left the restaurant.

It isn’t too hard to get rid of it if you are using a credit card but if you use a debit card and they run up the charges on you then you could be stuck with the bill if you don’t report it as soon as you see it and file a complaint with the local sheriff’s office.

You might need to do the same with your credit card but many of them will just back charge the charges to the merchant and absolve you of any liability and you may not need to deal with the sheriff’s office. But it would be a good idea to file a complaint in either case just to catch the criminal.

This is what has happened in Pensacola recently.

There have been 50 to 60 victims locally, and they all have been patrons at Vallarta, a Mexican restaurant on Sorrento Road, Sheriff’s Office spokesman Sgt. Ted Roy said. – Pensacola News Journal
